Edward Leedskalnin A World Wonder ~
A unique personality that longed for love, and created world wonders such as the one-of-a-kind sundial, an almost 9-ton revolving 8-foot gate, and consists of almost 1,100-ton of stones in the form of walls, carvings, furniture and a castle tower.

This Latvian man had his hopes set on creating an environment perfect for a future family that he was denied. This did not cripple his visionary scope of creation. His sundial is a symbol of his technical flawlessness. If the sun is shining; then you will still to this day, see the time of the day down to the minute.

With only a 4th grade formal education he worked as an amateur astronomer, by creating non-movable shrines to constellations that align and highlight their position with his stationary carvings. When people asked Leedskalnin how he had moved all of the heavy stone on his own, he usually replied, “I understand the laws of weight and leverage and I know the secrets of the people who built the pyramids”.

Wonderstruck~
My initial thought on the culture that we find ourselves in leads me to think locally within my own community. The impression that I get from the time that I spend online away from the people that I voluntarily choose to be around; ultimately invites me to look for ‘the other’ who I’m supposed to view as an enemy. This dividing inception appears to be only as strong as I allow for it to infuse itself into my actions.
The Wrong Battle~ I see every current news story has now devolved into addressing the left/right paradigm. This archetype has been driven into our psyche with such vigilance….that now an average person feels that they need to internally assess where they might sit on this linear but controversial scope. In my humble thoughts…I ask myself, is this valid? I have asked enough times that I now believe that it was the wrong question to ask. The question is valid, but I see another scale that seems to be even more critical.

The Authoritarian/Libertarian Axis || I see that both the extreme left & the extreme right are fighting against an enemy that is seen as an oppressive force. If we are to stand against the oppressor…then we should confront the power that is oppressing. Therefore, I believe that we may be facing the wrong troupe. Why spend the most valuable gift given [time] on a weak base of people that aren’t currently pressing against our current state of being. Instead, look from another angle, and gather that the real oppression is coming from an authoritarian presence using the dividing guise of ‘the other side’. I’ve found the best question to ask myself is….’What can I spend my time on that will get me to where I want to be’. This has given me a chance to add more value to the people around me.

An artist in many fashions who pioneered postwar American art. He was the first to bring the gospel of abstract expressionism to American Ceramics as well as many other media. He consistently crosses the boundaries of materials, genres, subject matter, and themes. Considered to be the founder of the Kansas City Crossroads Art District.

The Earth Lies Screaming~
A piece that Jim is well known for, and has been the centerpiece at National Veterans Art Museum in Chicago, IL. It stands at an extraordinary size of 50′ long x 10′ tall and was completed in 2000.

My family traveled half-way across the country to hang out with Jim and to enjoy visiting with him, his wife Molly, and his Chinese friend Swallow. Each day seemed to fly by and it especially seemed to increase in speed when we visited his studio. I just started taking pictures because the entire building was filled completely with art

Not Just An Artist But A Lover Of Art~
Jim is also a collector of art pieces and most of these are museum quality!

Something New ::: Detailed Designing For the Future which is Now

::: Goal :::

– Complete a vector design with heavy styling that will scale to any size
– Make something that looks new but could also be real
– Create something with complexity to show a robust use of skills working in tandem

::: Process :::

– Draw vector shapes with pen tool in Photoshop
– Adjust vector shapes a bit but still leaving it natural so that it looks hand-made
– Add styling to layers [emboss, gradients, patterns, layer blending, & shadows]
– Make rasterized merge copy on top & create lens flares
– Create background detailing depth
– Make alternate & manipulate saturation & lighting for authentic look

A Study In Balance || A Running Life Theory

A running theory that I have is that we are all so selfish (me included) that we want something….but then want something else. This leads our psyche towards a loop that entangles our moments. These moments then become about what I can get out of any given situation rather than a proper understanding of what can I give to this moment that will lead to me not only benefitting, but also giving in a way that will benefit me and those around me that I claim to care about that I am with in the moments to come.

I don’t want to sound like the monk on the hill promoting pleasure postponement, because I believe in balance. Rather, I think that just being aware of what you want and what others want can be informative for our present experiences.

There are individuals that manipulate for self gratification, while on the other hand there are those that are energy stealers because they find themselves in a bind of depression or seeking the lime light. Both of these, whether out of pity for themselves or narcissistic compulsions have a very similar effect on others. Taking more than they give. This is where self introspection is heavily needed for our time right now.

Talking about our time together…some feel that because we share this short time with others of varying relationships that it can be justifiable to take for selfish pleasures because in the future no one can be the accountable party. Maybe it is not the long game that you want to play, but you will ultimately suffer by exposing this part of yourself to all the others around you. I would suggest that this behavior is the opposite of community.

All life is precious, so acting in a way that is counter to this will lead to cognitive dissonance. With such little time in the body and experiences that have come your way…I would impose that it is imperative to look for the voluntary interactions that allow for all parties to succeed. Life can be messy and not every moment will allow for it, but striving toward this noble goal might just lead us away from de-evolution.
